On December 10th 2013, at Tan Cang – Cat Lai Terminal, Saigon Newport Corporation organized the Signing Ceremony with attendance of Mr. Nguyen Van Cong - Deputy Minister of Transport - and representatives of the Government Office , Ministry of Defense , Maritime Administration , Naval Headquarters , the Japanese partners Molnykit ( including Mitsui O.S.K Line (MOL), NYK Line and Itochu Corporation ) , national and local media, and all the leaders and staff of Saigon Newport Corporation. The Hai Phong International Gateway Port Project is the key deep-water port project in Northern Vietnam, built with the Japanese Government’s ODA with total area of 130.74 hectares, consisting of Component A (by the Vietnam Maritime Administration as investor), and Component B (originated by Vinalines, and a joint venture with Japanese partners Molnykit in the form of public-private partnership, as investor) . Under the direction of the Prime Minister , from January 4th 2013, Saigon Newport Corporation has replaced Vinalines to establish a joint venture agreement to exploit Component B with Molnykit partners. The component B of Hai Phong International Container Terminal project (abbriviated as "HICT") has a total area of 55.99 hectares (including 44.99 hectares of container yards and berths, and 12 hectares of berth water), 750-meter-long berth, -14 meter water draft at berth, capable of receiving up-to-100,000 DWT container vessels, 100-teu barge berths, 600-meter diameter turning basin, annual throughput capacity is 1,100,000 teus. The port is expected to officially operate in mid-2017.
