Despite of a prolonged holiday of this year’s Lunar New Year (Feb. 15 – Feb 22, 2007) business transactions at Cat Lai Port were still at a high level. In February 2007, Cat Lai Port received 145 ship calls resulting in an equivalence of 123,243 TEUs in throughput. On average the Port handled 4,402 TEUs a day at PPS of more than 32 moves/hr.
Such achievements had been obtained thanks to lots of careful preparations for year-end operations as follows:
- In an attempt to promote prompt cargo delivery/receipt and free CY space to be well-prepared for year-end import activities, SNP had applied a reduction of 50% in handling charge and had been collaborated with the Port Customs to maintain regular work in the last two days of Lunar Calendar (Feb. 10 & Feb. 11, 2007).
- Transportation for inbound containers was constantly carried out during the holiday to facilitate CY capacity at Cat Lai Port for outbound containers.
- Cat Lai Port had delivered the best performance of operations by arranging appropriate work shifts and labor. SNP Board of General Directors & Personnel had also carried out daily site survey and especially welcomed the New Year Eve at berth so as to hearten working staff. Alongside with the event was the launch of a 10-day campaign of exceptional work to greet the year of Golden Pig and to raise the spirits of “happiness, safety, solidarity, harmony, economy & heightened sense of defense and business” to labors for the fulfillment of year-end operations.
Subsequent to the holiday, SNP Board of General Directors had made essential work arrangements to handle the delivery of inbound containers to customers, facilitate CY space and take prompt actions to ensure regular operations at Cat Lai Port.
The aforementioned methods at the beginning of the New Year are subject to lay a sound basis for SNP to reach 2007 business objectives and to continue to take lead in container terminal operations on a nation scale.
