BA RIA-VUNG TAU: A SEA PORT CITY
According to the Plan to develop Vietnam Sea Port System to 2020 orientation to 2030, Thi Vai-Vung Tau sea port system is planned to develop to national general port system, and international gateway. The Resolution by the fifth Provincial Party Congress (2010-2015) affirms that Ba Ria- Vung Tau will be developing into a industrial and sea port province in 2015, with the planned profit of 35% from sea port services and sea port-based economy will gradually replace oil-based economy; developing the sea port system will be of the main tasks for Ba Ria-Vung Tau in coming years. This is a motive force for the development of sea port area of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, for the Southern key economic zone, for Vietnam and other countries in the region.
Being aware of the importance of the sea port development to local economy, leaders of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have shown their determination in making Ba Ria-Vung Tau a sea port city. Many symposiums on developing sea port system and logistics services have been hold; and the Proposal on Developing Logistics Services for the period of 2011-2020 has been made. And it is the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau that coordinates the Festival program. In accordance to the official dispatch no.7607/UBND-VP dated December 22th, 2011, the Prime Minister agreed the principals of holding the 1st International Sea Port Festival in Vietnam, 2012 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau (no.7607/TTg KTN dated February 10th, 2012). The Festival is of significant importance to the development of the maritime and sea port sector of Vietnam in general and to that of Ba Ria- Vung Tau in particular.
VIETNAM: A PEACEFUL DEVELOPING TRADING PORT
The 1st International Sea Port Festival in Vietnam, 2012- hold in Vung Tau city- has its own important purposes and meaning:
First, it implements measures from the Government to develop a sea-based economy strategy. The Festival helps introduce mechanism and policies, promote potential of Vietnam sea ports and tourism, enhance abilities to attract investment and develop a sea-based economy. Also it helps introduce products, equipments, advanced technologies that serve the development of Vietnam sea-port sector; and introduce the training and human resource sector. And most of all, it helps promote the logistics, maritime, import-export sector of Vietnam. The Festival can be an opportunity to exchange experience managements among sea-port operators, or to connect liners to the logistics systems of Vietnam.
To Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the festival paves the way for further co-operations and investments, making it possible to the establishment of a provincial sea port city in accordance to the Plan of Developing The Sea Port System of Vietnam, bringing it to a new stature of importance: a transshipment port and the gateway of Vung Tau to a modern sea port city, and giving it true abilities to integrate to the community of Asian sea port cities.
The Festival also plays an important role in heightening public awareness of the country’s sea and island sovereignty; highlights the leading role of Vietnam sea-base economy in the coming period of time – the time to consolidate the country’s economy, security and defense.
After all, the 1st International Sea Port Festival shows the determination to make it realistic the sea-based economy strategy that conveys the meaning “Vietnam- a peaceful developing trading port”.
