Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Nguyen Dang Nghiem, General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation, said, “After 23 years, especially in recent years, Saigon Newport Corporation has strongly developed to become a leading port operator in Vietnam. Time has marked many important breakthroughs of the corporation, from construction of business facilities all over the country (Cat Lai, Cai Mep, Song Than, Long Binh, Quy Nhon, Haiphong, Dong Thap and others) to investment for modern equipment, information technology application to management and operation, thus enabling us to continuously develop and steadily overcome general economic difficulties. In 2012, cargo throughput in the first 10 months rose 12 percent. The corporation expects at 3.5 million TEUs of freights handled at its ports and earn revenue of VND6,100 billion."
Before new challenges and opportunities, the corporation is entering a new phase, i.e. developing Saigon Newport with two pillars: operating seaport and logistics services based on three platforms: top-quality customer-oriented service, advanced governance and high quality professional human resources; and military discipline in corporate governance and responsibility to the community. The investment in the Mekong Delta is one of key stages in this strategy, helping exporters and importers to enhance competitiveness and business facilitation. On this occasion, I warmly commend outstanding efforts of all staffs at Tan Cang Transportation Joint Stock Company No. 2 for its transportation development. The upgrading of Tan Cang Transportation Joint Stock Company No. 2 into Tan Cang Waterway Transportation Joint Stock Company No. 2 reaffirms the corporation’s strategic step in developing markets, expanding logistics services in the southwest region. The corporation will transfer Tan Cang - Cypress Joint Venture, partly held by famous shipping firm Suncypress - Hong Kong, to Tan Cang Waterway Transportation Joint Stock Company. These will lay the ground for Tan Cang to supply shipping services and logistics services worldwide.

After some working meetings, the government of Dong Thap province signed a memorandum of understanding with Saigon Newport Corporation, a leading port operator in Vietnam, to operate ports in Dong Thap with the objective of directly exporting local goods to the world. Tan Cang Waterway Transportation Joint Stock Company is responsible for managing and operating this port.
