Since October 07, 2006, two vessels namely Vinashin Trader & Vinashin Freighter of BDS-MOL (Bien Dong Shipping & Mitsui OSK Lines) Joint-venture have increased ship calls by two per week at Cat Lai Port. Extended rotations are as follows: Singapore – Ho Chi Minh (Cat Lai – Ben Nghe) – Hai Phong – Ho Chi Minh (Ben Nghe – Cat Lai).

On December 12, 2006, Saigon Newport Company (SNP) had, upon making proper preparations, solemnly held the “Announcement Ceremony for the transformation of SNP into Holding Company”. Attended at the occasion were leaders from the Government, Ministry of Defence, the Vietnam People’s Navy, Authority of HCMC and neighboring provinces.

On September 14, 2006 at Cat Lai Port (CLP), Saigon Newport Company hosted a ceremony for the obtained throughput of one million TEUs throughout the port for the first 9 months of 2006 and launched the new scheme of Terminal 1.

As an effort to promote trade and commerce as well as diversify terminal services, the Free Trade Port Zone of Cat Lai terminal (FPZ) underwent operational pilot under the Decision No 37/2006/QD-TTg dated January 10, 2006 by the Prime Minister. With a lot of services and preferential conditions, FPZ offers more opportunities and helps drive competitiveness for customers as Vietnam integrates with the world economy. FPZ began to run its business in May 2006.

In 2006, Cat Lai Port container throughput approximates 1.5mil TEUs with an annual growth rate of more than 35% in comparison with that of 2005. At present there are 30 regular ship calls at Cat Lai Port at more than 150 voyages/month. Cat Lai Port is now making efforts to boost productivity for the enhancement of customer services in an attempt to reach annual throughput objective of 1.7 to 1.8mil TEUs.

On May 9, 2007 at SNP’ meeting Hall, an evaluation meeting for the Prime Minister’ Decision No 37/2006/QÑ on the pilot operation of Catlai Free Port Zone (FPZ) after a year was held by Vietnam Maritime Administration in cooperation with Saigon Newport Company

In the morning of January, 6, 2007, Saigon Newport Company and 107 business units were awarded “TOP TRADE SERVICES 2007”. Mr Hoang Trung Hai- Deputy Prime Minister, Madam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan – Minister of of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Ministry, Mr. Le Danh Vinh- Deputy Minister of the Trade and Industry Ministry and senior officials of the Central and Local bodies have attended the Presentation Ceremony of “TOP TRADE SERVICES 2007 at the Ha Noi International Convention Centre.

On January 09, 2007, Saigon Newport Company held the construction ceremony for berth No 1 of Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Container Terminal (CMICT) – a project to mark an important milestone in the development of the company.

On 23rd October, 2007, Mr. H.K Shin – General Director Assistant - Manager of STX Pan Ocean IT division and the managing Director of MACS shipping – Representative of STX pan Ocean in Vietnam had a meeting with representatives of SNP’s IT Department. Mr. Shin raised many questions relating to management system of port, warehouse and CYof SNP as well as system development and renovation plan.
